Mexico’s Velas Resorts has announced that they are giving away at least 100 free all-inclusive stays to healthcare workers. This is a show of appreciation for healthcare workers who worked hard through the coronavirus pandemic. Velas Resorts, which has properties in Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and Riviera Nayarit, is offering these stays through a social media contest where you can nominate a healthcare worker in your community.

We spoke with Juan Vela Ruiz, Vice President of Velas Resorts, about the Let’s Be Thankful campaign, the company’s plans for giving back to healthcare workers, and what contest winners can expect when visiting Velas Vallarta.

What inspired the resort to do this?

After this difficult and unprecedented year, we wanted to create a campaign that would showcase our appreciation for the healthcare workers who have fought tirelessly against the coronavirus pandemic. With our new “Let’s Be Thankful” campaign, we want to thank all healthcare heroes by offering well-deserved, all-inclusive vacations where they can rest, relax, and recharge. Our goal for the campaign is to give at least 100 free all-inclusive stays to healthcare heroes.

The contest will send winners to Velas Vallarta. Can you share a few things about what makes Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta so special?

Along with being the first resort we opened, Velas Vallarta is a magical place for all travelers, including families, friends, couples and solo travelers. Located on ten acres in one of Mexico’s most coveted destinations, the resort offers awe-inspiring ocean views and scenes of the Sierra Madre Mountains. Gourmet cuisine, locally-inspired spa treatments, Mexican fiestas, and nightly entertainment are just a few standout offerings from the resort. Velas Vallarta is ideal for families or friends traveling together since most of the accommodations are one, two and three bedroom suites. There is a lineup of kid-friendly activities and a spacious game-filled Kid’s Club. As well, honeymooners can enjoy the resort’s robust romance and spa offerings as well as pristine, long beaches. Golf enthusiasts can access the region’s top-ranked golf courses, one of which is right outside the resort. Single parents can receive discounted rates when traveling with their children.

What are some of the fun activities that healthcare workers can do at the resort?

While at Velas Vallarta, healthcare workers can enjoy the property’s two swimming pools, seaside spa cabins, three tennis courts, multiple restaurants, an inviting lounge area with live music, nightly shows and entertainment, Straw Mosaic workshops, Mexican fiestas, yoga on the jetty, beach volleyball, tequila tastings, and more are offered.

What attractions are near the resort?

Attractions near the resort include Malecon Boardwalk, Marina Vallarta, Playa De Los Muertos, Museo del Cuale, Los Arcos, Vista Vallarta Club de Golf, and more. Popular activities include jet skiing, parasailing, surfing, boogie boarding, sunbathing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Additionally, during the winter and spring, there are numerous whale watching tours where you will see humpback whales and dolphins that have migrated to the bay in order to reproduce.

What’s your favorite thing to do at the resort?

My favorite thing to do at the resort is to go out on the jetty and be surrounded by the breathtaking views of the Banderas Bay. It is such an unforgettable, beautiful, and calming experience.

What all will be included for healthcare workers?

Healthcare heroes will receive a 3-night all-inclusive vacation for 2 at Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta. The vacation includes luxury accommodations in a one-bedroom suite with a spectacular view of the ocean, a la carte gourmet meals at a variety of specialty restaurants, premium branded beverages, 24-hour in-suite service, a robust activity schedule, gratuity and more.

You mentioned gourmet meals. I know that a lot of wonderful cuisine is served at Velas Vallarta. For health-minded guests, can you share which vegan options are available at which restaurants in the resort?

We have a vegan menu and vegetarian options on all our menus. Sample dishes include traditional grilled vegetables, corn sopes with beans, sautéed zucchini, cilantro and vegan cream, Sinaloa-style white coconut ceviche with mango, and colima lemon vegan cheesecake with agave syrup and freeze-dried fruit.

How can an interested healthcare worker enter the contest?

An interested healthcare worker can enter by encouraging their friends, family, loved ones, or colleagues to nominate them when the social media contest is open.

Can you tell us how the contest will work?

The social media contest starts on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 and ends on April 30, 2021. Individuals can enter their nominee by submitting a 1-minute video sharing why they deserve a stay in paradise. Recipients are determined by the most video likes. Any healthcare worker can be nominated for the contest.

What can your frequent guests do to help support healthcare workers and/or this campaign?

Our frequent guests can help support this campaign just by booking a reservation. For every five-night stay reserved by April 30, Velas Resorts will put one night in the prize pot for stays for healthcare workers. Nights can also be donated directly to the pool and will be matched by Velas Resorts. More information about making a donation and reservation can be found at velasresorts.com.
