When Microsoft debuted Halo Infinite gameplay last year, the footage was so lackluster and last-gen-looking, 343 Industries and Microsoft decided to delay the game into late 2021—almost a year after its scheduled release date.
Halo Infinite was supposed to be an Xbox Series X launch title, you may recall. The fact that it looked more like an Xbox One launch title—though probably not as graphically impressive as some of that system’s launch games—was a big red flag.
To me, I suppose, the game just looked like another Halo. Maybe my expectations were low to begin with after the disaster that was Halo 5 (at least its campaign; multiplayer was fine).
But there’s no denying that new screenshots released by 343 Industries look much, much better. These were taken on a PC, but I imagine they’ll look fairly similar on the Xbox Series X.

343 Industries also released some new concept art:

All of this definitely helps show off just how badly this game needed to be pushed back to a later release. It’s a shame the Xbox Series X came out without any major launch title, but it’s better to delay and polish and release a great game instead of releasing something everyone complains about. Just ask CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077.
Halo Infinite is set to release this Fall.
